A BAPTISM OF WATER AND WINE

Land of the Reconquista that contains the best examples of the province’s Romanesque buildings among which are the churches of San Miguel (Romanesque arcaded gallery) and Nuestra Señora del Rivero in San Esteban de Gormaz, the pre-Romanesque chapel of San Miguel in Gormaz or the churches in Tiermes, Rejas de San Esteban and Castillejo de Robledo.

Castles and watchtowers are scattered all throughout the territory, the most magnificent one being the Castle of Gormaz, the largest Muslim fortress in Europe.

There are many routes that go through this land, for example, the Way of El Cid, the Wool Saint James’ Route and the Way of Saint James.

On the province’s border we can see the Archaeological Site of Tiermes, the battlefield for many civilisations from the 2nd millennia B.C.E. up to the 15th century.

You will be baptised with water and wine at a table with steaming lechazo, or lamb meat, goat’s meat and suckling pig. An excellent feast with great quality wine that give life to these towns.

This route suggests only some of the greatest towns in this region, however, take the liberty to explore the rest. We are sure that you will be delightfully surprised.
