Of its historical-artistic heritage, what is most noteworthy is the necropolis and the parochial church of San Miguel. The medieval cemetery has over one hundred prehistoric tombstones and sarcophagus, some with an anthropomorphic shape, from the 9th to the 13th century. The church of San Miguel Arcángel, and the prehistoric tombs next to it show that the village was populated before what is known as the Carta Puebla from 1250. The temple also contains some remains of a pre-Roman construction, possibly Mozarabic following Visigoth methods, which we can see in a horseshoe arch and a closed window in the apse. It also has a 13th-century dome which is quite rare since most of the domes in the province are from the 16th or 17th century.

The Douro River flows from its source located in the mountain range Sierra Urbión, and runs down rapidly with pristine water to this village. Duruelo is a mountainous and rocky land, but also a land of green pines and water. All year round you can see green, except on the northern part which is mostly white. There are some exceptional natural spaces, such as Castroviejo, a rocky place full of strange boulders that have been eroded throughout the years. Close by, in the middle of the forest, you can find the cave Cueva Serena, a peaceful and welcoming spot with its all-year-round waterfall. If you go up north, following the GR-86 footpath, towards Peñas Blancas or Pico de Urbión, with the Douro River to the right, you will reach Fuente del Berro and Prados de Miguel. To the south, towards Navaleno, you can go up to Cabeza Alta, a privileged lookout from which you can see a panoramic view of the region.
