Alvargonzález Route

Description |  Towns |  What to see |  What to do |  Where to stay |  Where to eat

Antonio Machado arrived in Soria in May 1907. It has been more than a century since this teacher and poet has honoured us with his presence in our capital and province.

Beat on, my heart... Not everything has been swallowed by the earth. – Campos de Castilla – CXX

The Alvargonzález Route narrates a trip that Machado did throughout the area of Pinares in 1910. It includes some footnotes on the poem and the legend of “La Tierra de Alvargonzález” that a Sorian will recite on your way up to Covaleda.

This route also aims to describe his life and his works. It is a way of honouring the Institute’s distinguished teacher up to 1912, and the renowned poet that described the land of Soria.

It is worth reading his collection of poems called Campos de Castilla.
