Soria Bridge (Covaleda)

It is suggested that this bridge was built in the 17th century and it was declared Heritage of Cultural Interest in 2000.

The Soria Bridge in Covaleda crosses the Douro River and is located only 2 kilometres away from the town centre on a forest path near a fishermen’s cottage in the middle of a beautiful natural area. It only has one opening of 11.5 metres high and 24 metres long, 3.6 metres wide and a maximum slope of 5.7 metres. The structure was made of ashlar stone, although the stonework on the abutments is from a different period, probably due to renovations. The pointed arched vault has well-done keystones, the tympanums are quite well-conserved and placed to adapt perfectly to the keystones. This feature extends up to the parapets which are the continuation of the tympanums and are finished off with semi-circular ashlar coping stones.
