Natural Park of the Urbión Mountain Range and Laguna Negra

This area is without a doubt the most beautiful places in the entire province.

There are about 50 kilometres from the capital to Laguna Negra. In order to get there, go on N-234 towards Burgos and once you pass Cidones, turn right towards Vinuesa. Near this town, you will see signs that will indicate the road to Laguna Negra which goes through the lovely valley of Revinuesa, surrounded by massive pine trees.

You can go by car all the way up to the lagoon, except in the summertime or on holidays when there are many visitors. In this case, you must leave your car parked in the parking lot Paso de la Serrá, and continue the path (about 2 kilometres) either on foot or by the bus that can pick up directly in the parking lot. Sometimes in winter, depending on the amount of snow and ice, it is possible that the road will be blocked.

For over 40 years, Sorians participate in the Swimming Race in Laguna Negra that is held on the first Sunday of August.

Legends speak of this dark, fascinating and enigmatic lagoon, placed 2,000 metres high within massive granite walls surrounded by infinite pine groves, some of which are known for their massive proportions. The lagoon’s dark waters and the mysterious mountainous landscape of the “wolves’ trough” have fascinated Sorians since the dawn of time and have inspired legends and stories such as La Tierra de Alvargonzález.

For this reason and many more, it is important that we all enjoy this special area with the respect it deserves, so other generations can also enjoy it.
