Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Momblona)

This Gothic temple has a short rectangular major chapel that is covered by a Renaissance coffer vault. The nave’s third section has domes identical to the other two sections but instead of its ribbing resting on semicolumns, they rest on Renaissance style splice joints. The choir loft has a star-ribbed dome with ogives, tiercerons, cambers and joints that form an octagon with concave sides. All nine keystones have X-shaped crosses and cross pattées.

The façade presents Renaissance features with a round arch topped off with an eave. On the frieze, you can read “Ave María 1584”. A tower was added on the south-western side, and its bell tower is Baroque. Its construction towards the beginning of the 16th century and was finished around 1584. The major altarpiece is also Baroque and was made by Luis González in 1767, and the gold work was carried out by José López García in 1777.
