Bridge of Santo Domingo (Covaleda)

In the middle of a beautiful natural landscape you can find this bridge which was declared Heritage of Cultural Interest in 2000.

It is not certain when it was built, though it is most likely that it was in the 12th century. The quasi Herculean stonework of 70 and 30 centimetres in diameter, with a unique opening formed by a huge barrel vault and ramp abutment make up this bridge. On the ends there are still parts of the old Roman road that once passed through this place. On the right side there are stirrups on the walls that suggest that there was a defensive tower or a control gate. The bridge’s central span is of 7 metres, 18.50 metres long, 2.90 metres wide and reaches 4 metres tall.
