BEAUTY AND TRUTH

In the epicentre of the plains, you can make out adobe and stone silhouettes in the horizon. They are the beacons of the Old Castile; watchtowers and pigeon lofts of all shapes and sizes emerge relentlessly from the smooth land. It is said that each and every one of them is unique. They are circular, quadrangular, with a courtyard or without, embellished or sober. Legend has it that they came from Rome and the cattle sheds are the living memory of the livestock tradition the Celtiberian civilisation lived off of. A land with specks of robust stone buildings that take us back to the time when shepherd’s walked the land with their flocks.

This is the land of resin pine trees, with vast plains and with a medieval history that make it stand out. Some of the Historic-Artistic Ensembles that it is known for are Berlanga de Duero and Rello.

Its villages are full of beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture. In Aguilera, Andaluz, Valderrueda, Brías, Casillas de Berlanga, Caltojar and Bordecorex you can see this beautiful style with your own eyes. But the most magnificent monument is the chapel of San Baudelio. This modest pre-Romanesque chapel with Mozarabic influences is considered as the most unique masterpiece of Sorian Romanesque architecture.

Other interesting structures are the Muslim watchtowers of Caltojar and Bordecorex, and the amount of castles and walled cities such as Rello and Berlanga de Duero. And let us not forget the episcopal palaces of Brías and Abanco with their parochial churches.
