Herreros

Located 23 kilometres away from the capital and next to the Cuerda del Pozo reservoir is Herreros. Many oak and pine trees cast shadows on the green land.

The abundant vegetation in this village clashes with the bare hill next to the village, only covered by thin grass. On top of that hill there is a robust stone cross on top of a pedestal known as el crucero. Down the hill you can find the simple Humilladero chapel, and on the other side of the village there is a resilient church.

Herreros was once part of the Royal Cabin of Cartwrights, an institution that benefitted the towns that were a part of it and has been inactive since the end of last century due to the development of railways. Nowadays, Herreros is still part of the “Association of the 150 villages of the Land of Soria”.

It is worth mentioning Don José Clemente Carnicero Torroba, who was born in Herreros on November 18th, 1770, and was a priest, archivist of the Indies in Seville, and it seems as though he Fernando VII's adviser, and left many unpublished works of literature.
