Holy Week (El Burgo de Osma)

Regional Tourist Interest.

The episcopal town is the perfect location to celebrate these sober, Castilian and passionate festivities accompanied by sacred music.

Attending Holy Week celebrations in El Burgo de Osma is one of best ways to end your visit in this town where you can see monuments and processions in this beautiful arcaded town that becomes the perfect sober setting.

On Holy Thursday, the Cathedral’s long shadow becomes a refuge for locals participating in the procession that begins with the Readings and Ruling carried out by the Bishop and then the Last Supper Mass and the washing of the feet.

Later on, the chiaroscuro atmosphere with the echo of the drums will have your senses tingling while you see the scenes of The Agony of Jesus in the Garden and the Last Supper that go from San Antón up to the Cathedral where they celebrate the Holy Hour in front of His Holiness.

The sacred icons are carried through the streets during the entire week to the sound of religious music; one of El Burgo de Osma’s most important features.

This way, you will be able to enjoy masterpieces, concerts, mass and polyphonic works of art that give their special touch to this town’s Holy Week. These pieces remind us of the Sorian musician, Francisco Soto de Langa, which was one of the most important figures in religious music called Oratorio.
