El Zarrón (Almazán)

Regional Tourist Interest.

On May 17th, Almazán relives an ancient ritual during the local festivities dedicated to San Pascual Bailón. This celebration, called El Zarrón, is closely linked to shepherds. Eight couples with traditional folk costumes perform 18th-century dances while two bizarre figures with fox tails surround them.

After mass, they will see the dancers again while El Zarrón, the sheep’s enemy or the devil, starts beating people in the square. A mixture of wine, sugar, cinnamon and wet bread called soparra is offered in the butler’s house, who serves it in artisanal wooden drinking horns.
